At the Las Cruces Chili Challenge 2003 the guys from Sunray got a chance to wheel with a group of Land Rovers from all over the country. Defenders are very capable out of the box, but when you start throwing lockers, big tires, and difficult trails at them they tend to scream. Carey Steiner of San Diego California was in attendance that day as we put on an impressive display of horsepower and horseplay that she thought she might be interested in. |

We couldn't figure out a way to bring the D90 home with us so after we all got home from Cruces she sent the truck out and we got to work. |

A shaved 1550 with 5.13's and a 35 spline ARB Locker was selected for the front. A custom high steer with the tie rod behind the axle and hydro-assist steering took care of turning duties. Notice the dual wheel pattern hub, Carey wanted to stay Rover with the option to go to a different pattern later. |

Wheel base is an issue with Defenders, so we custom fabricated the control arm brackets to work with the existing Safari Guard 3 link system she had in the front to extend the wheel base and make extra tire clearance from the tub. |

Shaved 35 spline 9" rear with Detroit locker and discs was picked to bring up the rear, once again built to work with her existing Rover power train and Safari Guard Suspension. |

When it was all finished Carey came to Texas to pick it up. You can't come to Texas with out having some good Mexican food, a few margaritas, and some hot Texas wheeling, so we took care of all of that. |
