Leaf Springs got you down?  Ever wish
you had a little more Wheel Base?  That
is how Pumpkin III was born.  Pumpkin II
is a Jeep you see pictured on this site quite a bit,
but it was time for a new set up.
The Frame and cowl were stretched 5.5 inches, both
given custom treatments with all new material.  The body lift was built into the frame and rock sliders. A fuel injected 413 c.i. Chevy small block,700R4 and NP 208 were chosen to motivate the new creation.

The tub was spray lined for comfort and ease of cleaning, and a fuel cell was fabed up to fit in the back.  Notice the Frenched in filler, nice touch.
Out on the fork lift checking for clearance on the tires and length on the shocks.  The wheel base ended up at 104" as planned by stretching the frame and body, and by moving the axles out to improve approach and departure angles.

P III was lifted via Sunray's custom Strut Arm coil spring suspension front and rear to make room for 42" tires.
Shaved 609 front and matching rear differentials with 5.13 ring and pinions and lockers provide the strength, gearing, and traction needed for serious rock crawling. The front end received hydraulic assist steering to help turn those big tires, and high steer to protect the steering links.

Habenaro Falls

P III's test run was in Las Cruces New Mexico for the 2003 Chili Challenge.  P III was up to the challenge, despite torrential rains through out the week.
Look for more of Pumpkin III on the trail and on this web site, also for all of our Las Cruces pics check out the trips section.
