In the world of custom axles, ground clearance is a big deal. The facts often get
confused with all of the different ways clearance seems to get measured. How big are
the tires? How much air do you run in them? What day of the week is it? All of these
questions lead to more questions. But there is one simple way to measure true ground
clearance on an axle. Measure from the center of the axle tube to the lowest point
on the housing, which is usually in the center of the housing below the lowest point of
the ring gear, the shorter the distance, the better the clearance. We are going to
take a few popular options and see who has the greatest clearance.
