Las Cruces 2002 Chili Challenge

Rob Harris, whom you may know from his years of wheeling Old Spot, and Old Spot II, and his various articles in four wheeling publications, decided that a full bodied Jeep just wasn't going to do it in our evolving sport.  He purchased a scorpion chassis and brought it to us.
The chassis was not every thing we had hoped for, so with many modifications and a ton of re-engineering of the suspension, it was time to throw some components in to the mix.  We started with a Chevy LT1 V-8 and 4L60E automatic transmission mated to an Atlas transfer case.  The modern motor was fitted with 2 power steering pumps to facilitate all of the hydraulic functions of the vehicle.

A Sunray 609 with 5.13's and a Detroit was put out front and a similarly equipped, all new 1550 was placed out back.  Both the front and rear are steering assemblies with hydraulic assist, and Sunray High and Rear steer arms.  The rolling stock is 42" Super Swamper TSL's.
The suspension is completely adjustable via air bags and hydraulic cylinders.  The interior is very utilitarian, filed with Master Craft seats, Auto Meter gauges, a Power Tank, and lots of control levers and switches for all of the steering and suspension.

Rob choose Bright Red for obvious reasons, and the body panels were fabricated from diamond plate aluminum.  Look for Rob and his affectionately named "Sunray" at any number of the big off-roading events around the country and coming soon to a magazine near you.
