When Chrysler introduced  the Jeep Unlimited many people got very excited. It was to be a bigger, roomier TJ, but it was also going to have 10 more inches of wheel base, which is what rock crawlers and regular trail riders are really interested in.

Rip Hayes of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan was already looking at stretching a regular TJ for hardcore trail use, so the Unlimited was just the Jeep to start with.

You have to have horse power to turn big tires, and since Rip chose 37" Krawlers on Walker Evans bead locks, we decided to do something a little special.  Instead of the usual LT1 we built a full roller, full hydraulic 355CI LT1 with custom heads, big injectors, and custom equal length long tube headers; then we had the whole mandrel bent 3" exhaust ceramic coated. The motor is combined with a 4L60E with a Sunray Short Atlas adapter, naturally mated to an Atlas II.

The interior stayed mostly stock except for the custom gauge cluster and custom cage.  Lift comes from a Full Traction 4" kit, and a little body lift.

The front end is a Hex'd Sunray Engineering 1550 loaded with a Detroit and 5.13 gears. Hydraulic assist steering was added to make turning in the rocks easier. The rear end is a Hex'd 35 spline 9" with matching carrier.

Warn bumpers, custom Sunray Rock Sliders, custom corner and rocker protectors, completely lined interior, beefy axles, big tires, and tons of horse power: What else could one ask for? Well a sweet license plate topped it all off.  We hope to have some action shots of the Sunlimited real soon.
