Las Cruces 2002 Chili Challenge

This may look like just a well built TJ, but it is much, much more.  Richard Streller of Dallas, Texas has been wheeling for a while now, and he like so many others bought a Wrangler when they came out and built it up.  After wheeling it for a couple of years, he decided to do something different, very different.  He wanted an ultra capable trail rig, that still looked like a Jeep, and its name would be Whiskers.
First a frame, tub, and tub were acquired and lengthened 10".  A custom suspension was built, keeping with the Wrangler coil springs, but radically changing the rest of the suspension.  The LT1 was selected as the mill for Richards new toy, backed by a 4L60E transmission, and an NP208 transfer case.  Whiskers features a Sunray shaved 609 front with 5.83 gears and a Detroit, the rear is a shaved 35 spline Sunray  9" with 5.83's and a Detroit.

Stretched TJ frame and custom suspension

At first glance it looks like a huge TJ, but a closer look and it is easy to see it is different.  42" Super Swampers on Sunray Engineering Bead Locks, and the 104" wheel base, set this TJ apart from the rest.
As you can see Richard's TJ gets to see plent of action, and he is not afraid to take his custom creation on the hardest trails around the nation.
